Punjab to have 9 solar powered tubewells

STAFF REPORT LAHORE: As many as nine solar tubewells will be installed at selected government farms in Punjab for the first time under a pilot project that would surely set a path towards alternative energy resources.
“Funds for this project will be provided under the annual development plan of Agriculture Department,” ‘Director General, Agriculture Dept Punjab, Ch. Ashraf, told the media.
He disclosed that there are over one million tubewells in Pakistan, including 750,000 run on diesel and 70,000 power operated in Punjab alone, that are consuming major chunk of fuel and energy.
“We will thoroughly evaluate the overall performance of different types of solar energy arrays under various agro-climatic conditions with reference to specifications given by manufacturers”, he explained.
