MONITORING REPORT ISB: The second batch of 537 Pakistani medical students has graduated from the Cuban Universities of Medical Sciences of Sancti Spiritus and Cienfuegos.


The graduation ceremonies of students, held at Sancti Spiritus and Cienfuegos, were dedicated to the Cuban leader Fidel Castro Ruz, who had promptly sent Henry Reeve Brigade, comprising 2464 medical personnel, to Pakistan in the aftermath of 2005 earthquake and subsequently offered 1000 fully funded scholarships for Pakistani students.


Representatives of provincial governments of Cuba and countrys Communist Party of Sancti Spiritus and Cienfuegos were present on the occasion. Project Director, Tahir Abbas Zaidi, represented HEC in the convocation ceremonies.


Speaking at the graduation ceremonies, the rectors of respective universities appreciated the Pakistani students for quickly adapting to the multi-cultural environment, and wholeheartedly participating in activities organized during their stay at the campus.


According to universities authorities, 165 students of the second batch qualified for receiving a “Golden Stamp” on their degrees, which is a significant achievement for Pakistan.


Speaking on the occasion, Zaidi conveyed profound gratitude, on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan, to the people and government of Cuba for their hospitality extended and kindness shown to Pakistani students during their seven-year stay in Cuba.
