STAFF REPORT IBD: Pakistan is an emerging Halal food hub and this is the right time to capture the international halal products market worth $3 trillion by making this industry compliant to international standards and boosting up halal sector.


Chairman Punjab Halal Development Agency (PHDA) Khalil ur Rehman Khan said this during his recent meeting with Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid.


On the occasion, both of them discussed issues related to halal food products and to compliant them with the international requirements.


The minister said there is strong need of developing standards and enacting a law to make our halal products. He added, “We need Halal professionals because globalisation of food trade and increased consumer awareness regarding food safety standards contribute towards new demands for halal, healthy and hygienic food.”


The Chairman PHDA said Pakistan possesses all imperative elements for Halal products production but are lacking professionals in this field.
