The Mehran University of Engineering and Technology in collaboration with IEEE Karachi section and IEEE Student Branch chapter Mehran University has recently organized a mega event of the year 2014 and mark the history.

The IEEE Explosion, as its name implies, was an outburst event comprised of several competitions, ceremonies, Technical and non-Technical activities.

The IEEE Explosion 2014 was a national level one-day event. Students from Humdard University Karachi, LUMHS University, ISRA University, Quaid-e-Awam University, Sindh University and SZABIST College also took part in it. It started with the recitation of Holy Quran and the opening video. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhary, in his welcome address on the occasion, congratulated the team IEEE and Mehran University for organization of the successful event and ensuring more than 700 registrations from all around Pakistan.

Chief guest Prof. Dr. Aslam Uquali, Vice Chancellor of Mehran University and Technology, Jamshoro, inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon and decorating the chief guests with Ajrak and presenting shields. The Vice Chancellor not only appreciated the students and organizers for organizing such a huge event but also mentioned that they are working day and night to bring the Mehran University among top 100 universities of the world and such national and international events will play a vital role in raising the ranking of the University.

In the Explosion, we celebrated the biggest IEEE day of the history of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology.

Prof. Dr. Aslam Uqaili, Chief Organizer of IEEE Explosion, Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhary, and Dr. Hameed-Ullah Kazi, Pro Vice Chancellor of ISRA University cut the cake. The IEEE Day ceremony started following with an IEEE Day video prepared by the organizers.

The event was then followed by the three technical seminars which were conducted by Usman Younus on the topic “Emerging Technologies”, Hameed-Ullah Kazi on the topic of Research and Innovation and Prof. Dr. Ehsaan Ahmed Ursani on the topic of Stem Cell Technology respectively. Participants of all the 11 competitions moved towards their competition destinations. All the competitions were related to the respective fields and hence whole university was engaged in it.

There were 10 competitions namely:

1. Speed Programming Competition

2. Database Dexter Challenge

3. Videography-Roll the reel.

4. Brainstorm quiz competition

5. Presentation Competition

6. Netcom-Networking Competition.

7.Race to Innovation Circuit Designing competition.

8. Robo manoeuver

9. Mini Project Competition

10. Gaming competition

During the technical activities, there were also some non-technical sessions for the entertainment of the audience and their confidence building as well, such activities include Master Orator and Rapid fire questions.

In Master Orator the participants were called on the stage one by one and were given a topic on which they have to speak for one minute and in rapid fire round the participants were asked a question of which they had to give the answer quickly. Those who successfully did the task got the gift.

The food has always been an attraction of the participants! At the IEEE Explosion 2 Hi-teas and lunch was served for the participants, VIPs and faculty. Management of food is always difficult when the crowd is big and it was managed very well at the IEEE Explosion.

Students from Humdard University performed a show which they have prepared specially for the IEEE Explosion. This show was a MIME show. Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhary presented Rs.5000 cash prize for their excellent performance.

The IEEE Explosion was wrapped up with the Awards were given to all guests, competition judges, event organizers, former COM members of IEEE Student Branch MUET, department coordinators, keynote speakers, media partners, website developer and sponsors. The 1st , 2nd and 3rd position winners of competitions were also given cash prizes of Rs.3000, Rs.2000 and Rs.1000 respectively by Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhary and ex-Vice Chancellor Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan Rajput. They also presented the shield of achievements to all those students who have been the pillars of IEEE Student Branch MUET and served it. Those included Abid Soomro, Sarang Shaikh, Hassam Mughal, Moiz Rehman Memon, Sara Rehman Memon, Mamta Bachani and Pinkesh Rajani.

Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry also gave a thank you note at the end of the event in which he appreciated the efforts of all the students, participants and organizers of the event. And with thank you note for the event ended with a history and new hopes for the future.
