STAFF REPORT ISB: The PARC has given away recognition certificates and cash awards to the agricultural scientists who introduced new varieties of groundnuts and canola with promising results.


Chairman PARC, Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad presented the certificates and cash awards of Rs.150,000 each to Principal Scientific Officer (PSO) Groundnut, Malik Shah Nawaz and PSO Oil Seed Programme (NARC) Dr. Abdul Rashid for introducing new varieties of groundnut and canola respectively.


PSO Groundnut, Nazakat Nawaz was also given certificate and cash award of Rs.50,000 while scientists Dr. Tahira, Dr. Shahzad Asad and Dr. Ihsan-ul-Haq and Dr. Zaheer Ahsan were given certificates for their contribution in the development of new varieties. In his remarks, Dr. Iftikhar said, “We must recognize the works of the scientists who have been spending their precious time for the promotion of agriculture sector.”


DG NARC Dr. M Azeem Khan said that the centre has been working on several research projects aiming at boosting healthy crop production in the country.


Speaking on the occasion, Member PARC Plant Sciences Dr. Shahid Masood said that the new variety of ground nuts named as Pothowar would be sent to Punjab Seed Council and would be multiplied by supplying the seed to the farmers to produce healthy and tasty peanuts.
