STAFF REPORT ISB: The third Vice Chancellors Forum of Islamic countries stressed the need for initiating joint academic programmes, promoting research and pooling resources so as to meet the challenges of the modern times.


The forum was jointly organized by HEC, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Ministries of SandT and Education and Federation of Universities of Islamic World.


As many as 200 Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Presidents of universities and higher education institutions of the Islamic world attended the event.


In his remarks, chief guest Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal hoped that the participants will come up with tangible solutions facing universities in the Islamic world. He said that Vice Chancellors are the real Corps Commanders in any country, as future battles will not be fought in battlegrounds and that the brain power will supersede the muscle power.


Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Chairman HEC, said that education alone was the solution to problems the Muslim countries are facing. He also stressed the need to work in collaboration rather than isolation.


Dr. Aminah Ramadha, Deputy DG ISESCO said that this is a wonderful opportunity for university heads of the Islamic world to discuss joint initiatives for promotion of research as well as steps to encourage research linkages between different institutions.
