It is a proven fact that children and students, imbibed with a sense of intrigue, eagerly use this knowledge to understand new concepts, make well-informed decisions and pursue new interests. Latest studies suggest that computer technology has helped students to improve their grades in other subjects, most notably science. Practically, they can work much faster using a computer which enables them to do more study in the same period of time. Prompted by the magnificent benefits of science and technology using computers, now many schools and colleges are using new methods of technology to enhance the learning experience; these include digital television channels, DVDs, digital radio and sophisticated forms of communication technology. On the part of teachers, they should try to make learning science as an enjoyable experience and the one that the children will remember for a life time because we must be aware that learning science is an on-going process and it will continue even when these children step out of the primary school. Science and technology popularization in schools can make science subjects much more interesting which have always been very boring for students. Teachers old methodology of teaching in class has been the main factor behind all this boredom. However, science and technology introduction at school level can create interest among students. A number of organisations are currently seeking to build the existing bridges between schools and the world of science and technology. For instance, the Science and Engineering Ambassadors Scheme, operative in a number of states, is much to be welcomed in encouraging more scientists and engineers to work with schools. In building the school-scientist partnerships in Pakistan, we do recognise the diversity of schools and see each partnership as being a unique exploration in what is possible in a particular school situation. The main objective of all this approach must be to help the teacher and the scientist to work together to develop their own creativity in ways which could benefit their students. They need to network their outcomes so that other teachers and scientists can share this good practice. But before this, training to prepare the teacher and the scientist is of crucial importance. Giving real encouragement to academic scientists to become involved by giving genuine incentive holds significance. Besides, industrial scientists need to become involved by instituting a mechanism for awards. We do have the endeavours to become a science and technology nation, but for that matter we need to introduce result-oriented reforms in our overall system.
