Staff Report LHR: Government College University (GCU), Lahore adds another feather to its cap through a recent milestone invention “ZNO-SIO2 nano-powder for the development of latent fingerprints.” The application got approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This is a cost effective nano powder that has tendency to enhance furtive fingerprints from different surfaces such as plastic, glass or metal.


The key persons who contributed in invention of the latest patent in the field of forensics and nano-technology are Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Tahir, DG Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), VC GCU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman, Dr. Muhammad Akhtar Farrukh, Director Lab Nano-Chemistry GCU.


Prof. Dr. Khaleeq-ur-Rahman, Vice Chancellor GCU said that it was the fourth US patent of GCU which is expectantly going to be a breakthrough development for crime scene investigation.


This powder can aid law enforcement agencies in crime investigation and several other spying or detective ventures.


It is also pertinent to mention here that recently state of the art nano-chemistry lab had also been established in GCU, Lahore to facilitate research in the field, nano-filtration, wastewater treatment, nano-drugs, nano-forensics, nano-catalysis and nano-fertilizers.
