Staff Report KHI: A symposium on theme “Radiation and Health Imaging: Hazards to Healthcare Workers” was organized by Radiation Safety Committee (RSC), Department of Nuclear Medicine, Ziauddin University Hospital.


The symposium was aimed at spreading awareness and knowledge about hazardous aspects of radiations and handling protocols of radiations by healthcare practitioners and workers.


Mr. Syed Mishkat Ali Jafri, Principal Scientific Officer Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) was also present at the occasion who detailed the basics of safety procedures, the principal functions of PNRA in monitoring the radiation exposure and ensuring the safe handling of radiation in Pakistan, and how to apply radiation safety standards in various fields. He said “Our foremost objective is to safeguard radiation workers, general public and the environment from the adverse impacts of radiation.”


Dr. Nosheen Fatima, Chairperson Radiation Safety Committee and head of department Nuclear Medicine, Ziauddin University Hospital emanated the significance of Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) in dependable radiation therapy measures. She sought the need for augmenting a safe environment at practices involving radiations.


She said, “We are all exposed to radiation from the sun, rocks and food and other natural resources.”


Large number of healthcare workers, professionals from medical profession, students participated in the symposium.
