STAFF REPORT LHR: The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) faculty of electrical engineering, Dr. Ijaz Haider Naqvi and his PhD student Faran Awais Butt have secured a US patent on Electronic Counter – Counter Measure (ECCM) technique. The technique quashes the effect of jamming on ground based radars and hence improves the accuracy of location of potential targets.

Electronic Counter – Counter Measure (ECCM) is the next level radar technology focused at preventing the attempts to disrupt the normal functioning of radar, in general referred to as Electronic Counter Measure (ECM). ECCM technology incapacitates or prevents the ECM technology.

Faran Awais Butt Masters thesis titled as Electronic Counter-Countermeasures (ECCM) of Radars was the primary basis of this work. The basic idea is to prevent jamming of radars by using two radars stationed a distance to avoid the velocity and range gate of pull offs. The bi-static radars are used in combination with mono-static radars to prevent the ECM effects.

In addition, Dr. Naqvi and Faran have number joint publications pertaining to Radar Electronic Warfare which had been presented in various International conferences held in different countries including China, Turkey, Poland, and Czech Republic.
