STAFF REPORT ISB: The total broadband subscribers including for 3G and 4G services has crossed 29.33 million mark in the country, registering a reasonable growth rate with each passing month.


As per latest figures issued by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the number of broadband subscribers in other technologies are DSL 1,516,938 users, HFC 43,929 users, Wimax 245,284 users, FTTH 20,549 users, HFC 44,136 users, Wimax 207,496 users, FTTH 22,786, EvDo 1,331,976 users and others 6,592 users.


Experts of telecom industry are having a viewpoint that portable mobile broadband devices like MiFi, Wingles and cheap packages are one of the main reasons of this growth in 3G/4G subscribers and many more will follow this trend in upcoming days. In the context of upcoming 3G/4G auctions for AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan regions, these stats are really encouraging for the mobile phone companies that depict the increasing demand of these technologies across the country. Meanwhile, the countrys largest mobile phone operator, Mobilink, has overtaken its competitors to become the number one 3G player after official figures were released by PTA. Mobilink crossed the seven six million mark with 7.93 million 3G subscribers till February this year.The subscribers base of mobile broadband of other operators include Telenor attracted 7.21 million 3G subscribers, Zong has 5.43 million 3G subscribers and 481,730 4G (LTE) users, Ufone possesses 4.9 million 3G users and Warid managed to attract 275,726 LTE users till February last.
