STAFF REPORT ISB: National Council for Tibb (NCT) has recently organized a training workshop for practitioners, educators and manufacturers of Unani system of medicine in collaboration with Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS).


Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan as chief guest made this occasion more auspicious.The prime motive of this workshop was to train practitioners in combating nationwide health problems.


Ayub Sheikh, Secretary, NHSRandC, appreciated the efforts of NCT in promoting role of Unani herbal medicine on the World Health Day.


Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari, President NCT, said on the occasion that Pakistan with an estimated prevalence of 12.8 million diabetics, is ranked 8th among the worlds top ten countries having increased prevalence of diabetes, which is an alarming situation for Pakistan, according to an estimate, it has caused 1.5 million deaths in 2012. Over the last few decades, there has been a considerable interest worldwide in Traditional and Alternative Medicine, particularly in herbal products.


The WHO also advocates the important role of alternative and traditional medicines in preventive and curative health, especially in developing countries and encourages member states to support traditional medicines to and plan for, formulation of policies with appropriate regulations.
