AppIdea2R – System Applications for solutions to UN Sustainable Development Goals is dedicated to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through info-communication technology. AppIdea2R contest provide special opportunity for the students of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) region who can generate ideas and can develop system applications, be it for the web, a personal computer, a mobile hand-held device, console, SMS, or any software platform broadly available to the public related to one or more of the SDGs.

First phase of the contest “AppIdea Contest” is completed successfully having tremendous results. A large number of students from ECO region submitted their ideas based on to resolve the issues highlighted in UN SDGs. The submitted ideas were evaluated by team of judges, in a transparent manner;  total 34 ideas were shortlisted for second phase of the contest “AppDev Contest”.

Ali Gul from The Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences attain 1st place with the idea of “Smart Helmet for Coal Mines “; Ahsan Ali from COMSATS Wah Campus got 2nd place with the idea of “Automobile Smoke Detection”; while, Halima Sadia Qureshi remains at 3rd position with the idea of “Phycological Self-Help”

“The Sustainable Development Goals represent a unique opportunity for the world to work together on 17 critical measures that embody the collective aspirations of the world’s citizens. Reaching the SDGs will enable all of us to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all”, said Prof. Dr. Manzoor Soomro, President ECOSF.

Professor Dr. B.S. Chowdhry Dean Faculty of Electrical Electronics and Computer Engineering stated that this contest provides a huge opportunity for the university students of ECO member states including Pakistan to win prizes as well as become part of an international team to solve the social problems. “This activity will help the youth of ECO region for connecting each other”, he further added.

“The knowledge gap is increased by limited connection to Information Communication Technology (ICT)”, said Sayyed Paras Ali, CEO Technology Times. To fill this gap and to facilitate achievement of SDGs the cross-cutting ICT is crucial to make fundamental changes, in this way societies produce and consume goods and services to meet this goal, he emphasized.

AppIdea2R aim to accomplish progress towards SDG by developing solution to local problem as well as to create awareness of SDGs at national & international levels, especially in ECO member states.

After completion of first phase AppIdea2R enters in second phase of App Development Contest. In this stage, a team will develop the Apps based on these shortlisted ideas. Students from the first phase could also get registered in App Development Contest.
