Under the Green Pakistan Programme (GPP), provincial government increasing forest cover in Punjab to alleviate climate change and its impacts effectively.

Capt. (Retd.) Jahanzaib Khan, Punjab Forest Wildlife and Fisheries Department Secretary said in a statement while talking to media.

“During monsoon season, Punjab planned to plant 12 million plantlets in the province, ” he said.

He further stated that the Punjab government intended for refurbishing the forest sector to bang its full and get-up-and-go to prosperity in the province. Jahanzaib Khan said that all provincial and federal government organizations, educational institutes, corporate sector, NGOs, and media were approached and involved in the refurbishing of the forest.

The secretary said that including the Punjab government, various units had already working on the monsoon plantation with adequate stocks of plantlets existing in nurseries in the province.

It is of interest to remark that the federal government just approved a ‘monsoon campaign’ aiming to plant 100 million or more plantlets across Pakistan.

He added that in addition to Punjab, KPK will plant 70 million, Sindh 14 million, Balochistan 750,000, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 3.75 million, the Fata 1.01 million, Ministry of Defense 1 million, Heavy Industries Taxila 1,000, the Pakistan Ordnance Factories 4,000 and the IUCN 500,000 plants.

 

The government fully understood the exacerbating vulnerability of Pakistan towards the climate change effects and was taking all measures to make Pakistan resilient to climate he said while answering a question from a media person.

“Green Pakistan Programme, a clear indicator of the seriousness of the present government towards shielding socioeconomic sectors, lives, and livelihoods of the people from the climate change and its impacts, he added.
