Prime Ministers National ICT Scholarship Programme (PM NICTSP)
It is towards this end that in 2007 National ICT Scholarship Programme (PM NICTSP) that envisaged providing equal opportunities to the students of underserved areas. This four-year fully funded scholarship programme is run with the financial collaboration of Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of the Government of Pakistan. Since its inception the programme has marked a number of achievements.
It has provided over 2050 fully funded scholarships worth up to Rs 1.8 billion to students from rural and non-metropolitan areas.
Besides, more than 2,500 teachers have been trained to prepare their students for taking entrance exams of the participating ICT universities.
Similarly, it has arranged training to approximately 36,000 students with a view to bringing them at par with contestants from metropolitan and urban areas.
Besides, more than 2900 rural/non-metropolitan area students have been offered fully-funded National ICT Scholarships, to complete their undergraduate degrees in ICT related disciplines in the countrys prominent universities including
National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI), FAST-NU, PIEAS, Peshawar, Lahore, UET Taxila, UET Mehran, Islamia University Bahawalpur, COMSATS, International Islamic University, IBA Sukkur, Foundation University, Hamdard University, Karachi, Balochistan University of IT, Engineering and Management Sciences, Bahria University, Islamabad, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST), Islamabad, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, University of Balochistan, Quetta, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and Government College University (GCU).
PMs National ICT Scholarship Program year-wise Breakup
Under the PMs National ICT Scholarship Programme, total 390 scholarships were offered in 2007 involving Rs 545 million while 6100 students were given training, in year 2008 about 550 scholarships were offered with an expense of Rs 440 million and 7200 student got training. Besides, 9000 students were imparted training in the year 2009 while 737 scholarships were offered spending Rs 590 million. Next year the situation improved further as a total of 11,000 students were imparted training, total scholarships offered were 580 involving Rs 464 million and in the year 2011 about 1000 scholarships were offered with the allocation of Rs 800 million.
