images_optSTAFF REPORT IBD: The government has appointed Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qadir as Secretary IT and Telecom at Ministry of Information Technology. Earlier, Amir Tariq Zaman Khan was serving as Acting Secretary IT and Telecom.

According to a notification by the Establishment Division, Dr. Qadir has been appointed with promotion from grade 21 to grade 22.

He has a PhD degree in Development Studies; and holds three Masters Degrees: Business Administration, Economics and Politics.

Dr. Zafar has served as Chairman National Disaster management Authority before his current appointment. He has a wide experience of project management, public administration, revenue administration and community development. He has also previously served as the Commissioner of Naseerabad, Director General and Additional Secretary in the President`S Secretariat, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, Pakistan`s Economic Minister and Deputy Permanent Representative at the World Trade Organisation, Secretary of Agriculture and Cooperatives and Additional Secretary of Health in Balochistan.

The Ministry and other telecom authorities are under constant pressure especially at a time when attempts to launch the 3G licences have been failed. Dr. Zafar has been assigned with special focus to directly monitor and supervise such important projects, an official said.
