STAFF REPORT RWP: An ostrich breeding farm would be established at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) to create awareness and promotion of ostrich farming in Pakistan.


This was decided in a meeting between PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad and CEO Pakistan Ostrich Company (POC) Raja Tahir Latif.


In the meeting, it was decided that PMAS-AAUR in collaboration with POC would help the farmers in setting up ostrich farm and would provide complete training, technical assistance, consultancy, medication to ensure safe and risk free investment in ostrich farming.


Both organisations also agreed to help Ostrich farmers in managing every stage of Ostrich farming from chick rearing, breeding, hatching and brooding.


Prof. Dr Rai Niaz said that climate and land of Pakistan is very suitable for ostrich farming. It was an opportune time for Pakistan to capture its share in the international market by rearing the Ostrich commercially and launching its products both locally and in the international markets.


On the occasion, Raja Tahir Latif highlighted the benefits of ostrich farming, and said that it was considered to be among the most profitable agricultural projects today in the world and often referred to it as farms of the future because of the high profit potential.
