STAFF REPORT ISB: The Bahria University Islamabad has recently has conducted a one-day summit on open source technologies with the aim to gather leaders from the IT industry with the focus to enhance the linkages between the academia and industry.


The industrial delegation met Bahria University Rector Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz, Bahria University Islamabad Campus principal, deans and head of Computer Department. All the parties affirmed their support for the development of Pakistans economy by efficiently utilising their sources of IT industry.


A development of a curriculum review committee comprising leading IT industrialists, technology experts and members from academia proposed to adapt the curriculum of universities, which can compete in the global technology landscape.


The summit, held in collaboration with Open Source Foundation of Pakistan and Higher Education Commission (HEC), covered workshops from variety of open source domains, including cluster computing, cloud computing, web penetration and network security.


The summit also included seminars about the application of open source in government, freelancing and early education technologies.


The guest speakers included leaders from multiple industrial sectors, including NADRA DG Technologies SaleemRafiq, PSEB Managing Director Asim Hussain, NUST MCS Dean Brigadier Dr. Ashraf Masood, Pakistan Institute of Entrepreneurs Chief Executive Officer Tahir MehmoodChaudry, OSFP founder Babar Zahoor and NAYATEL Operations vice president Jahanzeb Arshad.


The IT leaders shared their expertise and knowledge on how to use and develop the open source technologies in their keynote speeches.


The students from engineering sciences of Bahria University as well as people from different industrial sectors actively participated in the training workshops and seminars.
