WWF-Pakistan recently signed a project agreement with European Union Switch-Asia Programme titled Sustainable cotton production in Pakistans cotton ginning SMEs which will help further expand the work of BCI. Under this initiative WWF-P also aims to empower and improving the working  conditions of poor labors working at ginning factory under Decent Work component as described by ILO.

In support of project activities pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety, WWF-Pak organized a two days “Community Basic Life Support and Fire Safety” orientation workshop for the management staff of ginning factories with the coordination of Punjab Emergency Service rescue 1122 at SAP management office Bahawalpur.

The main objective of the workshop was to aware ginning staff regarding the possible emergencies which may occur in ginning factory and measures to mitigate these.

Fire prevention and handling accidents and injuries because labourers are exposed to numerous safety and health risks in gins while manual handling of ginning machinery and other equipments.

“Raising Awareness of basic life support and emergency handling through this workshop among working staff of factories will protect them in any occurrence of unwanted conditions, PES is already raising awareness among different industrial, educational institutions and departments yet through the collaboration of WWF-Pakistan it will extend its outreach to people working at farms and ginning factories”, said by chief guest Asif Raheem Chanar, Divisional Emergency Officer, Punjab Emergency Rescue 1122.
