Staff Report Rwp: A seminar focusing on biodiversity was organized at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) to perk up awareness of biodiversity related issues.


The dignitaries from various organizations working on environment and biodiversity participated in the event. The notables included VC PMAS-AAUR Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Dr. Abdul Wahid Jasra, Country Representative ICIMOD, Prof. Dr. Tariq Mahmood, Advisor RandD HEC, Dr. Muhammad Khursheed, DG Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (PEPA), Paras Ali, CEO Technology Times; whereas scientists, journalists, academicians, students, from various organizations also attended the event.


Chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad emphasized on the importance of biodiversity and said that pragmatic solution to cope with the challenges posed to biodiversity must be adopted so to conserve it for future generations and protect the environment also.


He also stressed on the sustainable use of biodiversity and deemed integrated efforts and a holistic approach a key to attain the said objective.


Prof. Dr. Tariq Mahmood said while addressing to the seminar that bilodiversity conservation is the driver for economic progress and environmental sustainability.


Paras Ali, CEO Technology Times stressed on the importance of environmental literacy to create awareness amongst general public and believed that it will play an integral role in combating with biodiversity related issues.


The seminar entailed discussion on issues pertaining to biodiversity to find out solutions by identifying the role as an individual as well as collectively to curb the challenges that are responsible for biodiversity reduction and directly imbalance the ecosystem.
