Chashma 4 nuclear power plant in action with grid

The National Grid is linked to Chashma 4 nuclear power plant of Pakistan. The fifth power reactor for which Chinese-supplied pressurized water reactor (PWR) is expected to be operational soon

To mark the connection to grid a ceremony was held by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC). Attendees were representatives from CNNC and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.

The Chashma 4 is among two of CNP-300 units built at sites in province Punjab. Construction of unit 3 started in March 2011 and achieved on 3 October 2016 and get connected to the grid on 15 October. Unit becomes commercially operational in December. While construction of Chashma 4 started in December 2011 and fuel loaded on 15 March after getting permission from Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority on 9 February.

This Chashma site is also known as Chasnupp. Unit 1 has two Chinese-supplied 300 MW electric PWRs commercially in function since 2000. Unit 2 is commercially in action since 2011. Another Canadian-supplied pressurized heavy water reactor at Karachi unit 1 with 125 MW electricity is operating commercially since 1972.

Chinese-supplied two 1161 MW electricity Hualong One plants are under construction in Karachi. Unit 2 in August 2015 & 3 started construction in May 2016. They are scheduled to operate in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
