Staff Report ISD: Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) inaugurated a seminar on “21st Century Maritime Silk Road and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).” In the seminar Sun Weidong,Chinese Ambassador to Pakisatn briefed about ongoing power projects set up by China in Pakistan and said that the country was ready to support its neighbor overcome the energy crisis and they would add 10,000MW electricity in Pakistans power sector after the energy projects completion.


He also ensured that they would expand collaboration by aiding in other areas like infrastructure, transport, education and poverty alleviation too.


CIIT Rector Dr Junaid Zaidi said that the university had introduced an academia-driven model of business cooperation by conducting the forum.


Tanveer Hussian, Federal Minister for Science and Technology emphasized on formulating national strategies for human resource development and promotion of science and technology.


Iftikhar Hussain Babar, the Board of Investment (BOI) Secretary appreciated the Chinese government efforts and said that the $45 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a great gift from China. He also called Chinese investors to invest in various sectors including energy and infrastructure in Pakistan.


In this ceremony MoUs were signed between business conglomerates from China and CIIT for development of a “Commodity Exhibition and Trade Centre” in Islamabad. The students from various colleges attended the seminar.
