HoneyHEROSTAFF REPORT KHI: The honey that has an ability to cure ailments could also affect human health, reveals in a Pakistani study published internationally in the International Journal of Advances in Pharmaceutical Research.

The research was conducted by Department of Microbiology, Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology-Karachi Pakistan, in which the quality of the honey products that are locally manufactured, available easily, and sold on the shops of Karachi were checked and found to have microorganisms that reflects that the current hygienic standards.

“In this study, six honey samples quality was assessed and found more or less same as were having microorganisms however, the samples should be free from any germs or contamination. If these microbes miss somehow from detection, they multiply themselves and cause diahorrea and other stomach related complications,” said Principal Investigator, Sikandar K. Sherwani, who is faculty member and microbiologist, FUUAST.

He further said that microbiological evaluation must be done at all levels right from the harvesting of honey from hives, purification, packaging till marketing in order to ensure the safety and good final product. Any contaminated product affects directly the health of people and makes people infected.
