STAFF REPORT IBD: Representatives of DFID and Unicef have recently met Minister of State for Education Baleegh ur Rahman and discussed with him preparations for the UN General Assemblys upcoming session.


Pakistan is one of the six countries that will present its progress on Millennium Development Goals in the UN General Assembly.


The representatives asked about the areas where Pakistan would need technical and financial support.


The representatives included Atif Rafique (DFID), Joene Simpson (DFID), Dan Rohrmann (Country representative Unicef), and Euphrates Gobina (Unicef).


During the meeting, Dan Rohrmann said that Gorden Brown UN Special envoy for global education is taking keen interest in promoting the cause of education in Pakistan.


He said that he wanted to increase and expand education in the country by building more schools and bringing out of schools children into school.


The representatives of DFID and Unicef also appreciated the recent efforts taken by the Government of Pakistan to accelerate progress on millennium development goals.


The minister briefed the visiting delegates about his commitment and sincere efforts to promote education in the country. He assured them that the National Action Plan will produce positive results.
