Drive launched to create hygiene awareness

STAFF REPORT ISB: The government, civil society, national and international partners and corporate sector have joined hands to make a call for a nation-wide awareness-raising campaign for sanitation and hygiene crisis in Pakistan.
The campaign has been launched with reference to the Global Handwashing Day celebrated every year on October 15. The Day is endorsed by a wide array of governments, international institutions, civil society organizations, NGOs, private companies and individuals around the globe.
Diarrhoeal diseases and respiratory infections are two major causes of death in children under five, responsible for 3.5 million deaths annually. In addition to children themselves, the role of mothers, caregivers, older siblings, grandmothers and teachers is very critical in influencing the young childrens actual handwashing practices.
