EIA curricula need to enhance educational institutes

STAFF REPORT PSR: An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) curriculum will be designed based on the feedback received from the universities teaching EIA.

The government in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has organized a one-day workshop on Enhancing the relevance of EIA curricula in Pakistani higher education institutions – towards closer linkages with the public sector, industry and practice in the city.

The main objective of the workshop was to discuss and review the outline developed for the EIA Curricula on the basis of the data collected during a series of workshops and surveys conducted with the public sector universities teaching EIA.

Recommendations for designing an EIA handbook and a teachers training manual were also taken in the workshop, says a government official on the occasion.

The workshop brought together a focused group of audiences comprising mostly Educationists and Environmental Practitioners from all over the country. Senior professors, lecturers and representatives from the universities all over Pakistan were present at the occasion.

On the occasion, Dr. Bashir Khan, Director General EPA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stressed that it is very important to take along all the stakeholders including environmental practitioners and educationists. He hoped that this process would bring about a positive change for the graduates and undergraduates studying this subject and will prove to be useful in their professional lives.
