Energy saving can help control power shortfall

STAFF REPORT LHR: Energy experts have said that usage of energy-efficient equipment in industries and home appliances along with energy conservation measures can help mitigate prevailing energy crisis in the country.
They were speaking at a seminar “Energy Audit-Impacts and Prospects” was arranged by the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Pakistan (IEEEP) Lahore, at Wapda House.
In the opening address, Engr Mohsin M. Syed, President IEEEP, and member BoD NTDCL, said that 3000 MW can be saved by converting household UPS on solar energy panels with capacity of 2-5 kilowatts.
He further said that 25-30 percent electricity shortfall can be overcome with usage of energy efficient equipments, with the help of cost effective power generation, which will pave the way for industry to compete in international market. The government is trying to generate electricity through solar at Bahawalpur and wind at Thatta-Gharo corridor.
Chief guest of the seminar, Acting Managing Director NTDCL Engr Abdul Razzaq and Engr Javed Saleem Qureshi Chairman (4 Brothers Group) also spoke on the occasion and urged the engineers to contribute for power sector by utilising their professional prowess.
While presenting research paper, former MD PEPCO Engr Tahir Basharat Cheema said that the govt should formulate laws pertaining to energy efficient equipments and home appliances like USA, Thailand, Bangladesh and other countries.
