STAFF REPORT MULTAN: The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) has urged the government to provide trade-friendly atmosphere to foreign investors and multi-nationals as assured by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, so that well-germinated, certified and disease resistant seed is supplied to the cotton growers.

“Pakistan is emerging as a leading lucrative country for investment because of provision of one-window facility to investors in all sectors, including energy, to help expedite the investment process,” said PCGA Chairman Mukhtar Ahmed Khan Baloch and others while talking to media here.

They said there is no restriction on foreign investors to transfer their profits back to their home countries and those foreign entrepreneurs should benefit from the given environment to the maximum.

In this context, Mukhtar said the multinational seed companies, while taking the advantage of these incentives, should help the cotton growers to increase the production up to 16 million bales. Similarly, production of wheat, rice, sugarcane, maize, pulses and oil-seeds could be enhanced by 100 per cent.

They termed seed as the backbone of agriculture sector which, they said, was the backbone of the countrys economy.

The PCGA chairman said that high quality seeds could change the lives of farmers and therefore future of the country, adding that the modern seeds were capable of increasing the output many times.
