STAFF REPORT ISB: The government has planned to launch special projects for different neglected agro-ecologies through the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and would establish tissue culture laboratories in Turbat and Thatta.


The improvement of irrigation system in Chitral, establishment of training facilities for farmers in Zhob, strengthening of agricultural, livestock institute in Khuzdar, Lasbela, Jafarabad, Turbat and Barkhan have also been planned under special projects for promotion of agriculture in less developed areas of the country.


“Some other measures include introduction and promotion of olive plantation in Gorakh Hills District, Dadu and less developed areas of Balochistan, FATA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” said an official source in the agriculture ministry.


He said the government also plans to establish crop and multi-sector research institutes in less developed areas of FATA, KPK and Nurpur Thal in Punjab.


“The federal government, through PARC, is providing assistance to provincial governments by funding their projects under Agricultural Linkages Programme (ALP) in areas of crop inputs, natural resources management and efficient use of livestock inputs for enhanced quality production of milk and meat,” the official further said.


It is also providing funds to provincial governments for purchase of research equipment, strengthening laboratories, executing joint agricultural research projects and establishing research stations/institutes.
