STAFF REPORT IBD: The Directorate of Science and Technology (DoST) has recently operationalized the first of its kind an advanced super computing infrastructure with the state-of-the-art High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.


The facility has been installed at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute at Topi, Swabi, through funding under a development scheme of the DoST namely “Development of Super Computer”. The facility is available to be used for research work in data mining, computational biology, computational mechanics, space technology, weather forecasting etc to all institutions of KPK and Pakistan through a dedicated internet connection.


An official of the Directorate said that the installed cluster can provide huge storage capacity (in terabytes), fast processing power in teraflops, and is a reliable, efficient and accurate resource for the problems involving complex computations.


The facility is now open and accessible throughout the week through PERN2.
