“ICTs have altogether changed our life. It has affected each and every sector of our life,” said Dr Sania Nishtar, Minister for Information technology, while chairing the 148th World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

She said that todays economy is knowledge based economy and Telecom sector is playing a very crucial role in it. Federal Minister remarked that we are in need of an economy as well as industry based on ICTs.

The minister said that the telecom sector is a flourishing sector in Pakistan and we need to focus more on it. She said that along with various opportunities linked with this sector there are certain challenges as well which we need to overcome in our country.

The need of the day was to develop state-of-the-art ICT standards for Intelligent Transport Systems and driver safety that utilize a combination of computers, communications, positioning and automation technologies for avoidance of any mishap and optimizing driving performance by eliminating unsafe technology-related distractions while driving.
