STAFF REPORT ISB: Amid energy crisis, the Ministry of Science and Technology has planned to convert over a dozen Islamabad buildings to solar power.

“Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies has prepared a PC-1 for the Rs613 million Green Public Buildings Project in Islamabad under which 16 buildings on the Constitution Avenue will be partially converted to solar energy,” a senior official of the MoST told this scribe.

The official said that the project was under consideration of the authorities concerned and funds would be allocated for it after formal approval.

According to him, PCRET, an organisation working under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), is primarily involved in research and development activities for indigenisation, demonstration and promotion of renewable energy technologies, including solar energy in the country.

The official said besides MoST, the cabinet, water and power and climate change divisions were also involved in the promotion of renewable energy concept in Islamabad.
