JICA, NISTE mark joint venture completion

STAFF REPORT IBD: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and National Institute of Science and Technical Institute (NISTE) has recently organised a seminar to mark successful completion of their joint venture titled Promotion of Student-Centred and Inquiry-Based (SCIB) Science Education in Pakistan.
The joint project started in May 2009 and now it has developed lesson plans from Grade 4 to 8 in General Science subject and trained 195 master trainers in the federal capital and four provinces.
The project was launched to make the science teachers aware of concept of the General Science 2006 curriculum which is Student-Centred and Inquiry-Based (SCIB).
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Federal Secretary Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Imtiaz Inayat Illahi said that the real test of a project lies in its fair and real implementation.
He said that raising standards of education required a strong political will regretting that the budgetary allocations for education sector in Pakistan were much below than rest of countries in region.
Takatoshi Nishikata, Chief Representative of JICA, said the project was implemented with the involvement of four provinces and now it had been accomplished.
