Knowledge urged to empower youth on use of earth observation

STAFF REPORT ISB: A three-day 8th SERVIR Himalaya Youth Forum on “Using Earth Observation for Climate Change Actions in Pakistan” has recently been organized at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) in Islamabad. This youth forum was jointly organized by PARC and ICIMOD under SERVIR-Himalaya Initiative supported by the NASA and USAID.
The main aim of the youth forum is to raise awareness and empower youth in Pakistan on the use earth observation information and allied technologies for climate actions.
On this occasion, PARC chief Dr. Iftikhar while addressing the students of B.Sc. Earth Sciences and Biological Sciences of Karakarum International University of Gilgit-Baltistan and a group of delegation of ICIMOD Nepal said mountain agriculture is one of the major areas of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FA/TA, Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK. Our youth has great potential to take new knowledge and innovative technologies to their communities.
Dr. Azeem Khan, Director General NARC, said climate change has put the Himalayan region in the centre of attention – as one of the most vulnerable ecosystems in the world severely impacting its social and environmental security. Climate change is one of the most critical global concerns of this generation where the youth of the region will face enormous challenges in future.
