STAFF REPORT LHR: To address the current scientific issues, NAYS and the ASM have jointly organised a countrywide competition under the heading “National Science Communication Challenge (NSCC) 2014” to provide an opportunity to develop communication skills in young researchers.The challenge asked the university students to create a communication tool such as video, radio script or print advertisement in the form of brochures or poster.

The projects were submitted in both English and Urdu modes in order to correct the misconceptions held by the common public about the scientific phenomenon.

For the final results, NAYS and ASM in collaboration with Center of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) have recently held an exhibition of NSCC submissions. All the finalists from different cities of Pakistan participated in the exhibition.On the occasion, they displayed their videos, audios, posters and brouchers.

Prof. Dr. Tayyab Hussnain (Director CEMB) chaired the event.

There was a very tough competition among the finalists. The team from CEMB with a video entitled “Antimicrobial Products: A Blessing or A Curse” stood first. While team from NUST was the runner-up by displaying poster on the topic “Drug abuse creates antibiotic resistant super bugs: stop before you are stopped.”As a reward the winning team will have fully funded trip to attend an upcoming ASM conference in USA.
