STAFF REPORT KHI: National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS), premier non-governmental organization working for SandT popularization held a Biosafety Training Workshop at Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST), Kohat. The workshop was sponsored by the American Association for Advancement of Sciences (AAAS).


President NAYS, Aftab Ahmad said during his speech, “Biosafety is the prevention of large-scale loss of biological integrity, focusing both on ecology and human health. These preclusion mechanisms include conduction of regular reviews of the biosafety in laboratory settings, as well as strict guidelines to follow. Biosafety is used to protect us from harmful incidents”. He also underscored the highlights of NAYS contributions in SandT promotion in the country.


The participants were given presentations and were cognized with different techniques and handling protocols which are necessary during any experimental work in lab in order to prevent from hazardous incidents.


Dr. Amir Ali (Department of Biotechnology, KUST), delivered a talk on common mistakes during biological research.


The training workshop was aimed at young scientists working in biotechnology field. The students, researchers, professionals participated in the workshop and were given important information on the biosafety.


Prof. Fida Younas Khattas (VC, KUST) was the chief guest of the workshop and in his concluding remarks he appreciated the efforts NAYS team and expresses his gratitude to NAYS team for arranging the workshop in KUST.
