STAFF REPORT LHR: A one day workshop with the theme “Biosafety training for young scientists” was organized jointly by National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) and Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology (IBB), University of Punjab. The workshop was sponsored by American Association for Advancement of Sciences (AAAS).


President NAYS, Aftab Ahmad while addressing in the inaugural session of the workshop highlighted the significance of science promotion in the country. He recounted the projects and different activities of NAYS for science popularization.


He also gave a lecture on fundamentals of biosafety and stressed on the importance of biosafety.


Director IBB, Prof. Dr Amtual Jamil Sami attended the event as chief guest. She apprised the participants about Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology. She said, “NAYS is doing a commendable job by maneuvering their efforts to promote scientific culture in Pakistan.”


She said that such trainings should be mandatory for researchers who are going to start their research. She pledged to continue such activities in institute.


The workshop contained two technical sessions. In first technical session, lectures related to biosafety concepts were delivered by Aftab Ahmad (President NAYS), Dr. Amir Faisal (LUMS), Sarfraz Ahmad (Punjab University). Another lecture on “Nurturing a Scientist” was delivered by Dr. Saifur Rahman (COMSATS, Lahore).
