STAFF REPORT ISB: The International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) has declared Dr. Mehboob-ur-Rahman of the National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), Pakistan, as winner of the ICAC Cotton Researcher of the Year for 2014.

The ICAC honours a leading cotton researcher each year by awarding a certificate of recognition, a shield and an honorarium of $1,000.

Dr. Mehboob-ur-Rahman specializes in molecular breeding and has been involved in basic as well as applied research on cotton. Dr. Rahman and his team have been active partners in many international megaprojects, including the physical mapping of D-genome and the D-genome sequencing project.

In addition to local and international registration of germplasm, Dr. Rahman released a number of cotton varieties that directly benefit cotton growers in Pakistan.
