PARC, JICA agree for farming staffs capacity building in KP

STAFF REPORT ISB: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has agreed to impart training to 100 agriculture officers and 250 field assistants in Pakistan at will be trained at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) in different areas of agriculture in order to strengthen agricultural extension services especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), JICA and Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have recently signed the document in this regard.
Under the agreement, capacity of the agriculture officers and field assistants in the KP would be enhanced to perform their role effectively in improving farm productivity, employment generation, mitigating environmental degradation.
Dr. Munir Ahmad, Acting Chairman PARC in his closing remarks said that effective and efficient extension services play a pivotal role in boosting agriculture for uplifting of socio-economic conditions of farmers.He said the need for food security in the province requires continuing education of extension workers who work with farmers in rural settings.
“At NARC there are more than 350 scientists in all disciplines of agriculture, well equipped laboratories facilities and ample field space to conduct varieties of well conceived meticulous experiments to find environment friendly and economically viable solutions to different problems of the farming communities of Pakistan,” said Dr. Muhammad Azeem Khan, Director General NARC.
