STAFF REPORT IBD: The Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) has initiated a programme to associate young scientists, under 35, and having PhD qualifications, as Young Associates. For young scholars, the Academy will organize various scientific events including lectures, inspiring discussions with leading scientists, skill development workshops, and field visits.

“Main objective of this programme is to channelize the talent of young scientists and groom and encourage them to make themselves eligible as future Membership and Fellowship of PAS,” an official of the academy told this scribe.

He said that the academy is formulating standards of scientific effort and achievement in Pakistan and recognize outstanding contributions to the advancement of science.

Official said PAS is establishing and maintaining associations and relations between Pakistani scientists and the international groups, meetings and unions of scientists, and between Pakistani scientific activities and the activities of scientists in other countries.

“PAS is awarding grants, scholarships, fellowships, prizes and medals for scientific research as well,” the official said adding that the academy is a non-governmental and non-political supreme scientific body of distinguished scientists in the country.

The government has accorded consultative and advisory status to the Academy on all problems relating to the development of scientific efforts in the country.
