STAFF REPORT IBD: The Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET) has installed more than 2290 bio-gas plants throughout the country in order to meet domestic fuel needs of rural areas and production of bio-fertilizer.

Under the project the “Bio-gas technology and production of Bio-Fertilizer” initiated in 2008, around 1700 plants were installed in Punjab, 300 in Sindh, 113 in Khybewr Pakhtunkhawa, 20 in federal capital, 71 in Balochistan and 50 in AJK.

According to official data, total cost of this project is Rs 97.648 million. Under the project will be completed this month.

Biogas plant is a device used for converting fermentable organic matter, particularly cattle dung, into a combustible gas (biogas) and fully matured and enriched organic fertilizer.

A typical biogas plant consists of a digester where the anaerobic fermentation takes place, a gasholder for collecting the biogas, the input-output units for feeding the influent and storing the effluent respectively, and a gas distribution system.
