Inclusive plan for the expansion of Pakistan Museum of Natural History, (PMNH) is on the road of implementation. Six new blocks will be constructed soon.

Rs35 million for feasibility report, design, planning, maps and layout etc of six blocks had been assigned in the current fiscal year, Director General PMNH, Dr. Muhammad Rafique “PMNH has a land of five acres and in the early plan eight blocks were designed among which only two were constructed in which they were running their activities,” he informed.

Construction of new block would be started hopefully next year which would be completed in four to five years with allocation of Rs.1.2 billion said by Director- General.

In the next phase, provincial chapters of National History Museum would be established in all provincial capitals of the country he further added.

He notified that it was the unique department of the country which encompassed four divisions namely Botanical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Zoological Sciences and Public Services. The first three divisions are engaged in the collection, preservation, identification and research activities pertaining to plants, fossils and minerals and animal’s resources of Pakistan respectively.

While after is accountable for mass education and popularization of the natural history through various displays, exhibits and dioramas.

The Director-General told that in PMNH 1.4 million samples of zoological, biological, ecological and other possessions from every nook and corner of the country had been conserved.

Among these samples, few are displayed in the museum while others are preserved in the repository for research students and scholars.

He informed that annually they explore four to 0.5 million more samples, besides that preservation, identification and they also responsible for computerization.
