STAFF REPORT IBD: Pakistan has made a significant progress towards mitigating the energy crisis with the federal cabinet according approval for signing of an MoU with India for trade of electricity.


It was informed to the federal cabinet the Ministry of Water and Power had initiated negotiations with India in this regard and the World Bank has undertaken to finance a feasibility study of the project.


It is to be mentioned here that the issue of electricity import from India has been one of the matters of discussions of the authorities concerned especially after the power crisis getting critical in Pakistan.


India is producing surplus electricity and willing to export to other countries including Pakistan. Punjab province of Pakistan has also made some progress regarding import of electricity from Indian a firm from the neighbouring country has recently visited Lahore and held meeting with the provincial authorities.
