STAFF REPORT ISB: Managing Director of Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) Asim Hussain has said that besides promotion of Information Technology, the Board is hectically working on new targets including software testing, IP protection and trainings in order to meet the needs of international market.

“We have set more targets to promote IT industry at both local and international markets as we still have to struggle a lot to come at par with other states in terms of IT sector,” Asim said in an exclusive interview to the Technology Times.

He said that so far 500 IT companies are registered with the PSEB and we are making initiatives to increase this number to 1500 in a couple of years.

To a question about the annual exports volume, Asim Hussain that explained gradually they are improving as today the exports have increased to the level of $1.5 billion dollars against the $22 million in 1995. However, he acknowledged that this volume is still low when we see other Asian states contribution in the IT sector like Indian and China.

He linked the low growth of IT industry to infrastructure, law and order situation in the country.

The PSED managing director revealed that IT parks are playing a significant role in developing IT sector and the government of Pakistan is planning to develop as many as 10 software technology parks across the country.

Regarding grabbing Pakistans maximum share in the world market, he stressed the need to showcase the local IT sectors potential the world over by participating in international exhibitions in various countries.

“Presently, we desperately need to install an outsourcing products development centre in Pakistan that would help a lot in finding new vistas in exploring international markets,” he said.

He stressed the need to impart training to IT counselors in Pakistan foreign missions saying they can prove to be an effective option in exploring the IT markets in their countries of postings.

He also suggested to focus more on strengthening the e-governance system, installing software testing lab and QA lab as it would enhance the quality of services as well as productivity.The PSEB chief was of the strong view that internet protocol laws are the core factor in developing the IT market and Pakistan has to ensure more progress in this sector in order to make the local IT market sustain on strong footings.
