STAFF REPORT KHI: Given that complaints concerning hidden charges imposed by the Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) are on the rise, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is rolling up its sleeves to control call tariffs again that were de-regulated in 2004.
On the very first day of new year, PTA had showed its intention by issuing instructions to all CMOs for immediate discontinuation of call set-up fee that was recently imposed by them. Now, a top official of the authority, confirming the news said, “PTA is in the process of developing tariff regulation.”
PTAs official reasoning the de-regulation of the CMOs tariff said, “Due to stiff competition in cellular mobile industry, the tariff of the mobile operators is not being regulated as per the Deregulation Policy 2004.”
However, it has been learnt that in a bid to address the complaints against the unfair and hidden charges imposed by almost all operators, PTA is thoroughly contemplating to regulate the CMOs tariff again.
“Due to recent increases in hidden charges by the operators, PTA is in the process of developing tariff regulation to cover such types of increases to protect the consumers interest,” the official said.
