STAFF REPORT IBD: The Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat and Capital Administration and Development has unanimously passed the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Bill 2012 at a meeting held here.

Director General IPO Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta told the meeting, presided over by Chairperson Senator Kulsum Perveen, about the IPO Bill 2012 and highlighted the salient features of the said Bill. The members of the Standing Committee discussed the uncommon clauses of the Bill.

IPO Pakistan Chairman Hammed Ullah Jan Afridi said that the IPO Act would empower the Organization to adopt solid steps for the improvement of service delivery system besides proceeding for up-gradation of trade mark, copy rights and patent laws. He expressed gratitude to the Parliamentarians for taking keen appeal in the proliferation of IPO Ordinance and said that IPO Tribunals would be established after the enactment of IPO Bill 2012 while new IP Offices would also opened in KPK and Baluchistan.

The chairperson of Standing Committee Senator Kulsum Perveen, in her concluding remarks stated that Senate Committee after thorough analysis of IPO Bill 2012, has given its approval in national and public appeal.

Shahid Ullah Baig also clarified various points raised by the members of committee and said that enactment of IPO Bill would enable the Organization to accelerate the pace of development initiatives, adopted to increase the services of IPO Pakistan for the safeguard of Intellectual Property Rights.
