To counter this situation, Sindh Police Department felt the need to approach Telecommunication service providers and a formal agreement was signed to give access of call data record and location of subscribers to police department through global system for mobile communication (GSM) and geo-fencing facility.
An agreement signing event was held which was presided by Sindh IG Police,Ghulam Hyder Jamali. Top officials of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Mobilink, Ufone, Telenor, Zong and Warid were present on the occasion. “Geo-fencing in a security strategy model, provides security to wireless local area networks and can aid the police department considerably,” Representative of a top telco said.
The Police department also hinted that they are putting efforts to get formal approval for relevant Ministry as geo-fencing technique is right now only a privilege for intelligence agencies.
