The inauguration of 2nd phase of 1320 MW Sahiwal Coal Power Project takes place

STAFF REPORT SAHIWAL: Pakistan massive 3.3 billion tonnes of coal deposits are still not utilized up to the potential and only 3.4 million tonnes per year are used for energy production. The Sahiwal Coal Power Project by Government of Punjab is the continuity of enhancing coal power production in the country in order to reduce the energy crisis in Pakistan. The second phase of the Sahiwal Power Project 1320MW inauguration took place.


The Chief Minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the project in the presence of Minister of State for Water and Power, Abid Sher Ali, Chinese officials and other notable dignitaries.


The Chief Minister while speaking on the occasion said, “Pak-China have historic bilateral ties which have been strengthened by trust of China in investing in Pak in different sectors including energy, agriculture, defence, and infrastructure. The Sahiwal Power Project will be completed in 2 years and 1320 MW will be added to national grid that will help to reduce load shedding issues”.


Countries rich in coal deposits like Pakistan generate 52 – 96% of their required electricity by utilizing coal (compared to that of 0.4% in Pakistan) while this country spend.
