MONITORING REPORT IBD: The United Nations has agreed to constitute a sub commission to finalise the technical details confirming Pakistans claim over 50,000 square kilometres of Exclusive Extended Economic Zone in the Arabian Sea.

“The constitution of the sub-commission by the UN Commission on Law of Seas (UNCLOS) in our case means that Pakistan has almost made the case,” an official source said, adding that this really was great news, UNCLOS has recently to Pakistan.

While countries like Russia, China and Japan are still fighting their cases to get the sub commission constituted to extend their claim on high seas, Pakistan has almost made its case for an extension of its territorial jurisdiction from the existing 200 nautical miles to 350 miles.

This Exclusive Extended Zone in the Arabian Sea, the sources said, would offer a real treasure-trove of prospects for Pakistan.
