STAFF REPORT ISB: The USAID is supporting the artisans of hand-embellished fabrics besides providing technical assistance to women micro-entrepreneurs in Pakistan.


Regional Director of USAID, Leon S Waskin, said this while speaking at the Industry Conference on Hand Embellished Fabrics recently organised by USAID.


He said that Pakistan was achieving fast the reputation of one of the primary manufacturers and suppliers of unique hand-embellished textiles and garments to the international markets.


“The American people, through USAID, are proud to support this important industry by developing the skills and market access of women entrepreneurs in rural areas throughout Pakistan,” he added.


The USAID official further said the US was partnering with the people of Pakistan through government and non-governmental organisations to promote embellished products.


Referring to the recent study conducted by World Bank, he said most of the women were engaged in traditional businesses like embroidery, embellishment and other handicrafts items.


He said that the USAID was also working to strengthen the businesses of women micro-entrepreneurs and make them economically sound.
